The Basque Country, or Euskadi, is a hilly region stretching across the borderlands of modern Spain and France. Powerful Atlantic waves from the Bay of Biscay, the Cantabrian Mountains to the west, and the Pyrenees to the east once protected the Basques, the first Europeans, from Asian invasions, allowing them to preserve their unique language and character. Today, the region is renowned worldwide for its rugged, picturesque nature and, of course, its gastronomy: the Spanish side of the Basque Country alone boasts 33 Michelin stars spread across 23 restaurants!
We will visit iconic Euskadi restaurants such as Asador Etxebarri and Elkano, get acquainted with Spain's most outstanding wines, explore the legacy of Cristóbal Balenciaga and the collection of the Guggenheim Museum, and also see Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, favourite destinations of the French aristocracy.
